Shadow work involves unearthing the hidden and suppressed aspects of yourself, known as the shadow.
It is the practice of introspection where you work through the darker, hidden parts of yourself.
These are often the repressed and the rejected aspects of you that we are most ashamed about and avoid dealing with.
Everyone has a shadow side, and acknowledging that it exists is important to be able to notice and recognize self-sabotaging behaviour and habits that could be potentially holding you back.
By bringing these unconscious aspects into your consciousness you can address your insecurities, regrets, negative impulses, and any past pain that you have buried.
These will rise to the surface you will come face to face with all that you have buried.
Gradually, by implementing shadow work you will be able to heal and transform your life. You will develop a strong sense of self-awareness and in some cases a new sense of compassion, this practice will make you more loving and kinder toward yourself.
It is tough, taxing, and will challenge you in ways you’ve never known.
Yes, it is difficult to face your shadow, it will elevate your consciousness, transcending you to new levels of wisdom.
How to do shadow work
There are a variety of ways that you can practice shadow work, the key is to find what works for you and have the right mind-set to see it through.
Start, by exploring your emotions, listening to your thoughts and processing your feelings, will help you address the most hidden parts of your psyche.
Being aware of your reactions and begin to process your feelings. By being observant you can understand your behaviour and connect it to events from your past.
You can do this with meditation, the deeper you go the more that you will uncover your subconscious.
By just being and practicing mindfulness you will find the answers that you wish to seek.
Journaling is one of the most popular techniques. By using prompts you record your thoughts and feelings and tap into your subconscious.
I have some questions that are designed to make you think and challenge yourself.
As you confront your shadow you will slowly align with your higher self. It is a self-diagnosis tool that awakens and educates you on a deep and personal level.
As you answer the questions, think about your responses use the prompts and write them out in your journal without judgment.
